The year 2024 has hardly been easier for the Ukrainian fertilizer market than the previous one. Some of the adverse factors have been overcome: fertilizer shipments to the deep-water Black Sea ports have resumed, and new chains of fertilizer supplies to Ukraine have been created. Ukrainehas started sourcing some types of fertilizers from new trade partners. Domestic nitrogen fertilizer manufacturers succeeded in operating smoothly, and Sumykhimprom even resumed making ammonium sulphate.

New challenges have also emerged for Ukraine's agricultural sector and fertilizer suppliers. Low prices for agricultural products, obstacles to their export, the outflow of skilled professionals, road transport issues and the cost-cutting by farmers have led to low demand for fertilizers in 2024. All of this combined to keep fertilizer consumption unchanged year on year in the spring of 2024, and this trend is expected to endure until the end of the year. This, however, means that the industry continues operating, changing and adapting to changing realities. New players are entering the market. This also means that the Ukrainian fertilizer market is still one of the most crucial in the world.
